The Amalfi Coast punishes ambition. The road is slow, the steps are many, and the pleasure lies in choosing a single village and staying put.

Positano is that village: vertical, absurdly pretty, and close enough to Agerola for the walk that justifies the whole trip.

Day 1 — Arrive and descend

— Positano is built on steps; pack light and expect to carry nothing yourself only if the hotel meets you.
— The coast road closes to non-residents on peak summer weekends — check before planning a drive.
— June and late September have the same sea with half the crowds of August.
