Venice between October and April is a different city: mist on the water, empty calli after eight, and restaurants that will actually talk to you.
Base yourself off the main route, travel by water, and give one whole day to the lagoon rather than the centre.

Know before you go
- — Acqua alta is most likely November to January; the city posts forecasts and lays walkways.
- — Water taxis are expensive and worth it once — for arrival with luggage.
- — Almost nothing in the centre is more than forty minutes' walk away, whatever the map suggests.
